Follow Up on Jaime Abeytia Criminal Case: Two More Cases

As the final sentences are handed out in the public corruption cases I began to wonder about two other criminal cases with political connections. The first case is City Representative Ann Morgan Lilly. As expected in a corrupt laden city like El Paso, the local police department is keeping this case hidden behind the illusion of an “ongoing investigation”. As I wrote in “Ann Morgan Lilly’s Legal Woes and Police Special Treatment”, Ann Morgan Lilly was accused of assault on October 21, 2013. And just like the 2005 incident the public record is nonexistent as the investigation is being conducted by a special unit of the police department. As before, the likely outcome of her case will probably disappear into oblivion. However, that got me thinking about another useful idiot; Jaime Abeytia’s criminal case.

You probably remember that on February 8, 2013 Jaime Abeytia was arrested for showing nude pictures of his common law wife to two 17 year old daughters. Originally the case involved two charges, one of tampering with a computer and the other for showing explicit images to a minor. Subsequently the Felony charge was reduced to a misdemeanor also for showing pornographic images to a minor on June 6, 2013.

In two previous blog posts I detailed Jaime Abeytia’s extensive criminal record. You can read more about them at “Jaime Abeytia: Useful Idiot Extraordinaire” and “Jaime Abeytia: Just Another Symptom of El Paso Corruption”. Interestingly as much research as I had conducted into Abeytia the latest batch of court records that I reviewed in preparation for this post showed even more activities by Jaime Abeytia that were investigated by the police department although apparently no charges were filed.

In reviewing the records for the May 13, 2013 crimes he is charged with I came across two other allegations of criminal activity.

According to an El Paso Police Report identified as 12-136025; Jaime Abeytia was investigated for criminal mischief (>$50<$500) on May 15, 2012.

Another police report (12-185173) alleges that Jaime Abeytia was accused of “Burglary of Habitation” on July 3, 2012.

Both cases identify the alleged victim as his common law wife and the existence of these two additional allegations had not been made public prior to my post today.

According to the complaint affidavit Abeyita had hacked into his wife’s Gmail account and then he “discovered that the Victim’s mother had saved explicit digital photos, videos, and emails that she had sent to other men”. Allegedly he then sent himself copies of the emails and locked his wife out of her account.

Jaime Abeytia then allegedly showed the nude pictures of his wife he had stolen to two daughters, both 17 years old at the time. The criminal complaint states that Abeytia’s common law wife had never shared her password or given him access to her email account.

In light of his extensive criminal record, Jaime Abeytia is still drawing a $47,890 pay check from the taxpayers’ of the community at the behest of Vince Perez.

According to the court documents on his pending case; the district attorney offered Jaime Abeytia a plea agreement calling for about six months in jail, 24 months of probation, 100 hours of community service and a $2,000 fine, of which $1,500 is probated. In addition, the district attorney’s office is asking that Jaime Abeytia may not have unsupervised contact with any minor children as well as random alcohol and drug testing.

At this point, from what I can tell from the court documents it appears that Jaime Abeytia has refused the plea agreement and is currently scheduled to go to court on March 4, 2014.

As if this wasn’t egregious enough, consider the following.

On February 23, 2012, Vince Perez issued a press statement in regards to arrest of Willie Gandara. In it Perez states that in order “to break this cycle of failed leadership, the people of Precinct 3 must demand greater accountability of candidates seeking to represent them in public office”. Perez adds “I remain committed to fighting for new leadership to restore integrity to the office of County Commissioner Precinct 3”.

Oh, and I almost forgot, as of yesterday, December 5, 2013, the Maricopa County’s warrants website shows an outstanding warrant for Jaime’s arrest for failure to pay child support.

In light of all this the obvious question becomes where is Vince Perez’ self-proclaimed demand for “greater accountability” of county officials when he keeps a criminal currently facing two criminal charges and was investigated on two additional charges by the police?
