It does not matter what you believe the Claudia Ordaz texts reveal. Whether you believe they are nothing more than a political embarrassment or they reveal serious problems at the city, I believe we can all agree that they are news worthy. They are news worthy by the mere fact that an elected official released over 3,000 text messages via an open records request from her private phone. This is especially more important because hundreds of thousands of dollars were recently spent by the city successfully keeping official emails out of the public realm.
It is therefore clear that the release of Claudia Ordaz’ text messages are news worthy by any journalistic standard you might want to apply to them. El Paso has the unfortunate circumstance of having one “paper of record” and as a result, the corruption within the political realm is allowed to exponentially expand across all sectors of the city. The El Paso Times, under the tutelage of Bob Moore, continues to demonstrate how to fail in journalism.
For many years, I have documented how Bob Moore is instrumental in enabling corruption in the community. Moore allows the corruption to succeed by covering up the corruption clearly in his line of sight. Many individuals complained privately and publicly about Bob Jones and his corruption with NCED. For many years, Bob Moore ignored it. For what reason, I am not sure. It could be as simple is incompetence in not wanting to alienate community champions or just because he was part of the corruption.
When it was clear that the NCED fraud could no longer be contained, Bob Moore allowed David Crowder to begin investigating, although the real investigation and exposure had already occurred by an outside newspaper. Bob Moore corruptly allowed the illusion to be created that the El Paso Times was breaking the NCED story, when in reality it was citizens tired of the corruption and The Oregonian, that was doing what newspapers should be doing – holding government accountable.
What a concept, having a newspaper investigate and expose corruption! Something completely lost in Bob Moore.
Even though I know all this, I am still surprised by the audacity of Bob Moore to pretend he is a journalist even going so far as to trumpet awards he purchases for himself. The Claudia Ordaz text messages are an important news item that the members of the community should be informed about by the “paper of record.”
Instead, what the community is hearing is nothing. Nothing has been written about the Claudia Ordaz texts message a week after they were first revealed.
Could it be that the newspaper does not have enough reporters to go around? Could it be that there are so many serious community issues that the newspaper has to write about that it doesn’t have the resources to focus on 3,000 emails? That’s what Bob Moore wishes you to think. The fact is that Bob Moore does not want his reporters to cover the Ordaz texts for a simple reason.
It has everything to do with whom the text embarrasses.
Look closely at Bob Moore’s socializing circle and Facebook feeds and you clearly see who will be protected by him. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
That right there is the only reason why the “paper of record” has ignored the Claudia Ordaz texts messages.
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Here is another graphic that was just begging to be created. Feel free to share it.
