Yesterday, FBI Director James Comey, clearly called Donald Trump a liar. Although there are many ongoing attempts, both by the Trump administration and his supporters to misdirect the narrative, the fact remains that the FBI director called Trump a liar.
During yesterday’s House Intelligence Committee, FBI director James Comey confirmed that what Donald Trump tweeted about Barack Obama wiretapping was a lie. This is what Comey offered during his testimony:
“With respect to the president’s tweets about alleged wiretapping directed at him by the prior administration, I have no information that supports those tweets, and we have looked carefully inside the FBI.”
Donald Trump was given various opportunities to take back his tweet alleging that Barack Obama wiretapped him or to provide proof of the allegation. Trump did neither. His administration tried to deflect by inventing new uses for quote marks and by redefining what the word wiretapping means.
The fact remains that Donald Trump lied.
Comey further confirmed that the FBI is investigating whether the Russians illegally intervened in Donald Trump’s election. Like all criminal investigations and like Comey himself testified, it will be some time before we know the full scope of the FBI investigation.
But the fact remains that Trump lied.
There can be no excuse for that, especially with respect to the Office of the President of the United States. Trump may not have any respect in himself. And his supporters may not care that Trump disrespects the office by lying through the office.
But the people of the United States demand and expect a president that has the integrity to lead the nation in the right direction. Obviously, Trump does not.
I guess this is what Donald Trump means with his new doctrine of America First. America First seems to about dishonesty and having no honor nor integrity in making America great again.
