Yesterday I received one of those scam unsolicited calls from “Windows Technical Support” telling me my computer was being hacked and they were going to helpfully help me fix it. The scam works by getting the unsuspecting user to allow them to access the computer via a remote connection.
When they access your computer, they either install viruses on your computer and then offer to clean it up for a fee, or they install malware on the computer so that they can abuse it. Either way, it’s hackers trying to access your computer.
I figure, I’d have some fun with them so I played along, pretending I was using a Linux computer, but clueless at the same time.
