Beto and The Blue Wave

Political talking heads on both sides of the isle are talking about the so-called “blue wave.” The Republicans may be publicly underplaying it, but they are worried as evidenced by GOP proponents – like Sean Hannity – going on about how Republican voters “must do their part” to keep Trump’s agenda going. The Democrats are hoping to get control of the House and the Senate. Trump, for his part, is telling his supporters not to blame him if the “blue wave” materializes.

The “blue wave” has metastasized over time from Democrats taking back the House and the Senate to the House coming under Democrat control. Will the “blue wave” happen? That depends on who you believe. For the “blue wave” to happen, a major mobilization of non-traditional voters needs to happen. These are the voters that tend to stay home on Election Day, unless it’s a presidential election year.

If the “blue wave” is to happen, the Democrats need to mobilize voters to the polls. That is easier said than done because American voters are just plain lazy.

However, a good barometer of whether a “blue wave” is going to happen is Beto O’Rourke.

Texas is a “red state” and the incumbent, Ted Cruz, is a Republican.

Polls, which should be taken with a grain of salt – remember Clinton-Trump 2016 – show Beto O’Rourke doing much better than most anticipated, including the O’Rourke campaign. Texas is in play and it is the perfect barometer for the “blue wave.”

Most Democrats and pundits will call it a “blue wave” if the Democrats gain control of the House. If there is to be a “blue wave” that is the likely scenario.

But, for a true “blue wave” the outcome needs to be a true check against the outrageousness of the Trump Administration. For that to happen, the Democrats need to control both the House and the Senate. Only then, can Donald Trump be put under the submission of the American people.

Impeachment is started at the House. But, unless the Democrats control the Senate, where impeachment has teeth, any impeachment proceedings at the House will be only be noise as a Republican-controlled Senate will stifle any attempt to subject Trump to the authority of the Constitution.

Thus, a Beto O’Rourke win in Texas will prove the “blue wave” to be real because if Texas can elect a Democrat to the Senate, others will surely follow.

Let’s face it, the only good outcome to a “blue wave” is subjecting Donald Trump to the humiliation of being drummed out office with his tail between his legs. Beto O’Rourke has promised to lead the effort to impeach. Thus, Beto is the litmus test to the “blue wave”.
