Americans And Others

The latest Donald Trump controversy fully exposes an ugly truth about some Americans. Accepting that Trump’s approval ratings and polling data shows that somewhere between 20% to 48% of the U.S. population believes that the United States is a country only for them. How many of the 20-40 percent is up for debate, but the number, whatever it may be, is troubling for America.

The ugly truth is that a large percentage of Americans believe that the country is theirs and theirs alone. When an American utters; “if you don’t like it, then leave” or “go back to where you came from” they are saying if you don’t like the way I want things then you must leave.

For some Americans there are them and then there are the others.

The others are those that do not look like them, act like them, believe like them, have an acceptable skin color, or some combination of the above.

This is not about immigrants or foreigners.

This is about one U.S. citizen telling another that this is not their country.

Digest that for a moment. Let it sink in because it is important.

The United States was formed on the idea that many people could come together and challenge the notion of what is acceptable. Somewhere it lost its way because for some Americans it is perfectly OK to tell another American to leave their home.

Some Americans are kicking out other Americans simply because they disagree.

It is a dangerous time for some Americans because for some it is perfectly acceptable to tell other Americans to get the hell out of the country.
