Gun control is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. There are many homicides committed by gun toting thugs every day. These are criminal acts. What happened in El Paso is a criminal act but also something much worse, it was a terrorist act designed to instill fear in the Mexican/Hispanic community. Gun control has little to nothing to do with terrorism.
Allowing gun control to become part of the narrative for the murder of people in an Hispanic city distracts from the terrorism that drove the murders.
Terrorists do not need guns to kill. Terrorists have used cars, bombs, knives, guns and even their bare hands to terrorize those they hate.
We know that the driving force behind the El Paso murders was hate. It is hate for Hispanics, Mexicans, brown skin and immigrants. Those killed weren’t just murdered because they happen to be there, they were targeted by someone that hates Hispanic/Mexican people.
The El Paso killer targeted an Hispanic community because he hates Latinos.
That is the underlining problem and the one that needs to be the dialog for the El Paso murders.
Turning the atrocity into a gun control issue distracts from the hate that drove the murders.
If America allows the El Paso murders to become a referendum on gun control then the hate will continue. Racism drove an individual to kill. That is the fundamental reality that needs to be discussed so that it can be corrected.
What happen in El Paso needs to be addressed for what it is – the murder of people because of the color of their skin.
