Note How The GOP Responds to Impeachment

I noticed a curious thing about the GOP response to the impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump. It somewhat surprises me because it says a lot about the impeachment. It says that the Republicans are resigned to Donald Trump being impeached. Here’s why.

The GOP has decided that the House will issue Articles of Impeachment.

Note the tactics that the GOP has taken. They aren’t arguing that Donald Trump should not be impeached. They are not arguing that Trump has done nothing wrong.

Instead, the Republicans are focused on the secrecy of the process. The GOP is arguing that the process is “un-American”. Not because Trump is innocent, but because they are not allowed to poke holes in the evidence being assembled. By staging an overtake of one of the committees last week, they have signaled that the impeachment battle will not be about whether Donald Trump committed impeachable offenses, instead it will be about poking holes in the process.

What the Republicans signaling by challenging the process and arguing that some Democrats have done much worse is that their only defense of Trump is to distract the facts by process arguments and “whataboutisms” by some Democrats.

In other words, even the GOP knows that Donald Trump is going to be impeached.

What they are hoping now is to distract the U.S. voters so that the true criminality by Donald Trump doesn’t become part of the national narrative. Instead they want to argue “process” and alleged crimes by Democrats.

The Senate remains an enigma. What they will do when the Articles of Impeachment make their way to the Senate is anyone’s guess. Will they ignore the Articles of Impeachment? Will they give Donald Trump a slap on the wrist? Or, will they remove Donald Trump from office?

The shenanigans by the Republicans prove that they don’t even know how the Republicans at the Senate will do with the impeachment of Trump.

That bodes bad for Donald Trump.
