The Impeachment Trial of Donald Trump

Unless you are living under a rock then you know that the impeachment trial of Donald J. Trump began yesterday. Trump is only the third president to be impeached.

Regardless of where you stand on impeachment, history is being made as you read this post. Other political topics will have to take a back seat until the trial is completed.

Although the outcome is assumed, the fact is that anything can happen. This is especially true in that in about ten months there will be an election to keep Donald Trump or replace him with another president.

Also, cracks within the unified Republican caucus are starting to show. Mitch McConnell had to walk back his speedy outcome plan because he did not have the Republican votes to expedite the process. Now, instead of twelve hour-two day presentations, is now eight hours over three days. Republican Susan Collins issued a statement yesterday saying that she is leaning towards having witnesses. What all this means is still up in the air.

Like many others, I will be watching the trial. My plan is to post updates on the blog when things that I consider interesting or breaking news happens. A Breaking News graphic will accompany the post. I also plan on posting updates on my Twitter feed as well. If you do not already follow me on Twitter, please consider doing so @martinparedes.

I have not decided whether I will post daily recaps as I normally do. I am not sure if it would make a difference considering that I want to post regular updates throughout the day.

If there is a day where nothing worth posting as an update happens, I will just post a quick recap of the events of the day.

Like everyone else I do not know how long the trial will last. So I plan on being flexible. The process is fluid so I will update changes in my plan as we go along.

To be clear, I will offer both a mix of news – just the facts and commentary – my view point. As most of you know, my hope is that Donald J. Trump is removed from office. It likely will not happen, but I can hope.

Once the trial is over, my plan is to return to daily posts in the morning.
