The Covid Drive By

Nothing proves that life has changed after Covid-19 then the phrase “drive by”. It is a phrase that means two different things depending on your point of view, pre-Covid and after-Covid. In one instance it means danger and even death. On other it means celebration.

Before the pandemic, it meant death, likely a very painful death.

Before the pandemic, uttering let’s do a “drive by” meant grabbing your gun and packing into a car and driving down the street until the car came upon the victim – intended or not – and opening fire resulting in the maiming or death of both the target and those who happen to be in wrong place at the wrong time.

Now, uttering “drive by” means the complete opposite – a celebration.

Instead of grabbing guns, the perpetrators grab markers, poster board and other celebratory paraphernalia and while giggling go about thinking about their target. A target that is pre-planned and intended.

On their faces, instead of the grim look of killers, the new perpetrators smile from ear to ear as they pack into the car to deliver their message.

Instead of maimed standbys and screaming moms mourning their dead children, today’s “drive by” celebrates life as the targets and drive by perpetrators celebrate birthdays.

Nothing demonstrates how life has changed after Covid-19 then the drive bys after Covid-19.
